Why this guide?

This is a practical shortcut, inspired by Claire Hughes Johnson’s “Working with Claire”, to how I think, collaborate, and communicate, so we can avoid friction and get to the useful work faster.

About me

I’m Robin, a fast-thinking, big-picture strategist who enjoys connecting ideas and simplifying complexity. I like working with people who care about meaningful work, done thoughtfully.

I’m neurodivergent with a dyslexic flavour. Recognising whole words can take a few tries, small details like typos are easy to miss, and my short-term memory fills up quickly. Long sentences take real effort, and talking things through is often how ideas click into place (I talk a lot).

I often “know” before I can fully explain, because I process information quickly and connect patterns intuitively. Clear structure, summaries, and kind, direct feedback help me translate ideas into action.

My neurodivergence is mainly dyslexia and dyslexia-shaped traits. These are not things I can simply switch off; they are part of how my brain is wired and have been there since childhood. I’ve already tried many of the usual suggestions around reading, planning, and organisation. What helps most now is patience, understanding, and working with me in the ways described here, so we make the most of how I think rather than trying to change it. My short-term memory and “time optimism” mean I may underestimate how long things take or need occasional prompts, even when I care deeply about the work.

If you’d like a simple overview of dyslexia, the British Dyslexia Association’s guide to signs of dyslexia in adults and the NHS overview of dyslexia are good starting points.
